KAIWHAKARONGO (Listeners)
A community project in sound
What does our community sound like? Kaiwhakarongo is a creative
project that tells the story of our Kapiti and Horowhenua community
through sound.
A demo and feasibility study of the project has been funded by
Creative Communities Kapiti and created by Janie Walker and sound
designer and composer Janet Holborow. The final project is nearly
ready to go and is a great fundraising tool for community groups.

As humans, we are designed to listen to what is around us; The
shaking of china tea cups at Sunday church; a whakatauki at Te Reo
at the local Kohanga Reo; buying a newspaper at the dairy; the sound
of the waves, the train coming; a speech competition at Paekakariki
primary school; and a community in need.
